Sinesipho Dambile was the best of the South Africans at the Diamond League final, with the in-form sprinter taking second place in the men's 200m race in Brussels, Belgium on Saturday night.

Dambile, who had finished top of the points standings in the half-lap event to qualify among the favourites for the series final, took the runner-up spot in 19.89 seconds. American athlete Kenny Bednarek took the win in 19.62, equalling the fastest time in the world this year over the half-lap distance.

"Every time I show up, I make sure that I give my best.... and I definitely enjoyed the race. The crowd was great and Kenny Bednarek was the best man today," Dambile said after the race."

In other events at the two-day Diamond League final, Gift Leotlela (10.01) and Akani Simbine (10.03) finished fifth and seventh respectively in the men's 100m race. Zakithi Nene was sixth in the men's 400m contest, completing the race in 44.44, and Prudence Sekgodiso ended eighth in the women's 800m event in 2:02.34.

Competing in the men's T63 100m invitation race, which was not an official Diamond League event, amputee sprinter Puseletso Mabote secured victory in 12.12.
