On a very wet day on the track,  Gift Leotlela delivered an impressive performance on Tuesday night, but missed out on a medal by the narrowest of margins at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

Leotlela set a season's best of 9.91 seconds in the men's 100m final, which was won by Cameroonian sprinter Emmanuel Eseme, who set a Games record of 9.83 to win gold. Even though he was edged out of a podium place by just 0.01, Leotlela set the second quickest time of his career.

Further back, fellow South African athlete Cheswill Johnson took eighth position in 10.13.
Earlier in the evening session, Bradley Nkoana was disqualified in his semifinal due to a false start.
